Pregnancy journal prompts
Pregnancy prompts work best when they let you write two things at once: the record for later, and the part you are not saying to anyone at the moment. Both belong on the same page, and neither has to be tidy.
How to use these
There is no schedule here and nothing to keep up with. Take the ones that fit the week you are in, skip whole sections, and know that a letter written once a trimester is still a book by the end.
The record, week to week
These are the ones you will want the dates on, because the weeks blur almost immediately afterwards.
- How is your body today, plainly, with no editing for anyone?
- What changed this week that nobody but you would notice?
- What did the appointment actually feel like, before you told anyone about it?
- What are you eating, avoiding, craving, or entirely off?
- What can you still do easily, and what has quietly become work?
- What did you feel today for the first time?
- Who knows, who does not, and how is that sitting with you?
- What is the ordinary detail of this week that you will forget by the next one?
Letters to them
Write these to the person, not about them. Address the page directly and let it be a letter, however short.
- What do you want them to know about the day you found out?
- What is the world like right now, the week they are arriving into?
- What do you hope they get from you, and what do you hope they do not?
- Who is waiting for them, and what are those people like?
- What were you doing with your life before this, that you would want them to know about?
- What do you already suspect about who they are?
- What are you promising them, in words you could keep?
- What would you want them to read on a hard day, twenty years from now?
The parts you do not say out loud
None of this needs resolving in the entry. Putting it down is the whole task.
- What are you afraid of that you have not said to anyone?
- What do you miss about how things were?
- What advice has been the most tiring to receive?
- What are people getting wrong about how you are?
- What do you feel about your body right now that you would not post?
- What are you grieving, even while you are glad?
- What has been harder than you expected, and what has been easier?
- What would you like someone to ask you this week?
